Helena Thomas BA (Dunelm) MMus (London) PGCE (Lancaster)
Chester born and bred, Helena is a graduate of Durham University, where she studied voice and cello. Helena continued her vocal studies at Goldsmiths College in London, where she was awarded her MMus degree in Vocal Performance with Commendation under the tutelage of Nan Christie. Helena is an active oratorio soloist, and continues to sing with organisations up and down the country, most recently singing Bach’s St John Passion in Manchester.
Helena was a member of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain between the ages of fifteen and twenty, and continued choral singing as a member of the BBC Symphony Chorus, taking part in regular concerts in London including the Last Night of the Proms, and touring in Europe. After a stint working in music publishing in Germany, Helena returned to Chester to train as a secondary school music teacher, also finding time to sing with Chester Cathedral Nave Choir and Manchester Consort. Helena currently conducts Chester Music Society Youth Choir, Alumni Choir, Cor Meibion Caerwys and Cor Merched Caerwys, and works with the National Youth Training Choir of Great Britain on their residential courses.
